초원의 빛

Splendour in the Grass
- William Wordsworth

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower:
We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind:
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks though death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.

한때 그렇게도 찬란한 빛이었건만
이젠 길이 눈앞에서 사라져 버리고
초원의 빛, 꽃의 영광
다시 찾을 길 없을지라도
우리는 서러워 않고 도리어
뒤에 남은 것에서 힘을 얻으리
여태 있었고 또 길이 있을
원시의 공감 가운데
인간의 고뇌에서 피어나는
위로가 되는 생각 가운데
죽음을 뚫어보는 그 믿음 속에서
현명한 마음을 가져오는 세월 가운데서.
